From the English lessons that I had attended so far, I think
that I had learnt a lot. I had learnt things such as the structure of a summary,
reader response and problem & solution essay. In addition, I had also
learnt the rules about the word form & the sentence structures and many
others.
I think that I had improved on my essay structures as there
are guidelines and proper structure formats to guide me along. In terms of language,
I think that I had also improved a little because I am clearer about the rules
of the word form and sentence structures after the lesson. As for the content,
the essays were provided for the previous two assignments, so the information was
easier to extract. However, there aren't any skills taught on how to extract
the relevant information from the references. There are a lot of points and
examples in one reference and how do we gauge the importance of the information
as to which information to extract and which to not. This is very important so
that only relevant points and elaboration is used because there is word counts
limitation.
As for weaknesses, one of my weaknesses may be the limited
vocabularies that I know. To improve it, I think I can read up on one
vocabulary daily and remember it by heart. Furthermore, I think that I am very
weak at the rules for the word form, verb form and tenses. I cannot remember
the rules by heart and may not be able to apply them in the correct way. Thus, I
think that I can improve it my first remembering the rules and then look at
more examples to know how to apply them.
For the feedback on my summary, I had made all the
corrections according to the comments given. Initially, I was not confident in correcting
two of the changes but after I received my second draft, I am sure that I had
made the right correction because I received good comments and grade. As
compared to my first draft, definitely there were improvements made as seen from
the positive comments given. In addition, I also find that the structure was
better in the second draft.
As for the feedback on my reader response, I had made all
the corrections according to the comments given. Similarly to my summary, I was
not confident in two of the changes but after I received my second draft, I am
sure that I had made the right correction because I received good comments and
grade. My second draft was definitely better as the corrections were made
correctly. However, there are still room for improvement in terms of the
content and language according to the additional comments made on the second
draft. Despite that, my actual grade was still what I expected for.
Overall, I think that I am at the average level in terms of
my writing skills. There are still room for improvement.
